WHY DO WE NEED A SCOTTISH ROAD WORKS REGISTER?
Section 19 of the 2005 Act states that - the Commissioner shall keep a register, to be known as the Scottish Road Works Register" (SRWR). It also states that "the Commissioner shall make the SRWR available, at all reasonable times and free of charge, for inspection. "The Commissioner took on these functions as from 1 April 2008.
There are 3 main reasons for having a register:
Although the term "Register" conjures up a picture of a large leather bound tome, the SRWR is in fact a national computerised database system for the electronic transfer, retention and management of road works data utilising internet access. As far as can be determined, it would appear to be fairly unique in being one of the few completely national systems anywhere in the world.
They will be required to enter a statutory requirement for all utility companies to enter details of their planned works within the SRWR.From 1 April 2008, roads authorities were required to enter details relating to traffic sensitive roads and from 1 October 2008 they will require to enter details of works on all roads.
PUBLIC ACCESS TO SRWR
Public access to the SRWR can already be found at: www.roadworksscotland.org . The website provides a real-time interactive display of all current and planned works on the roads throughout the whole of Scotland.
You may request further information from the Register by contacting us directly. We also have a standalone terminal available for public usage. More information about what is held within the SRWR and how to access it can be found in the following leaflet
